It's amazing how much difference a little bit of correct information can make!

In our search for the true principles of living a great life we've learned that no matter how well we do with the rest of our life, if we are not applying the laws of living a healthy lifestyle with proper exercise and fitness habits, it's difficult to enjoy any of the other great blessings that are ours!

While this isn't meant to be a comprehensive health and fitness website, keeping in line with the theme of the rest of the site, we will be talking about some of the basic truths that govern our health.

You will find here 3 posts from the blog on the subject talking about some of the fundamental truths of keeping these wonderful bodies healthy. Also take time to explore other physical fitness articles from the "Labels" list on the right side of the page. These include specific health tips as well as inspirational stories  from the health and fitness arena.

I think it's high time we all started getting serious about our health! I'm not here to promote anything to you today. Just want to make a couple of points.

The biggest "Health Care" issue that we have today is ourselves!!! Are we living a healthy lifestyle?

In our era of super advanced medicine when we have conquered many of the old diseases that used to kill so many people, why is our population still so sick today?

Here's what the experts are telling us. The vast majority (around 80%) of the illnesses that kill us, hospitalize us or leave us with a chronically impaired existence are either a direct or indirect result of our everyday lifestyle choices today!!!

Let that really sink in!

What that means is that if we would just exercise a little bit of wisdom and change a few things in our lives, we could have more energy, stay slimmer, enjoy a more active life, reduce diseases like arthritis that limit our quality of life, stay out of the hospital more, avoid things like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc... and live longer more enjoyable lives!

That is all completely within our ability to control or influence!

Your health is very much within your control! But it requires a game plan, some self discipline, and some change to living a healthy lifestyle!

And don't try to tell me that we love our favorite vices too much to give them up!

Does it sound fun to walk around with an oxygen machine all day or have to spend the last several years of your life in a rest home having someone change your diapers for you, or spending the last 5 years of your shortened life suffering from cancer, or having your doc tell you that you can no longer pursue your favorite pastimes because your blood pressure is too high?

All of this while your friends who decided to take care of themselves are out enjoying their lives and their health??

Think about it!!!

I've been thinking about how much most of us take our health for granted until something really serious kicks our tail. I 've had too many of my friends die in their 30's, 40's and 50's of some serious disease when they should have been enjoying great health and spending many more great years with their families, etc...

It really doesn't take a massive change for most of us to be living a healthy lifestyle for a lot longer than we will by just being apathetic! Back when we were in our teens and 20's, being 50 seemed like an eternity away! Now it's here, at least for me!!! You know what? I'm not ready to cash it in yet! Another 50 to 75 years would be fine with me!

Do you know what the experts are saying about our generation? They are telling us that for the first time in history, our parents will be more likely to be burying us than our kids!!! That's sick! (No pun intended)

It really doesn't take a whole lot for us to make a major difference in the outcome. I read an article a while back that said that about 80% of the diseases that we suffer and die from today are caused by our lifestyle choices! That was a wake up call for me! If my lifestyle can cause it, then I assume that changing to living a healthy lifestyle can fix it too!

So I've been looking at what I'm doing that I can change that might help.

I need to start applying a healthy exercise and fitness program in my life on a consistent basis!

Are there some healthy food trends out there that I need to be paying attention to? I think so!

Stop drinking gallons of pop, replace it with about 8 glasses of good clean water every day.

Stop eating tons of sugar, snack food, pizza, burgers and other fast food! Start looking for good things to eat, lots of fruits and veggies (I like them anyway)! Switching to healthy alternatives that I still enjoy!

Quit being lazy and glued to the TV or stressed out all the time and start getting more focused on exercise and fitness and living an active lifestyle (running & biking for me)! I don't think we can over emphasize the importance of physical fitness if we want to apply true principles to keeping ourselves healthy, active and energized well into our later years!

Take more time to stop and smell the roses! It actually rebuilds your energy to perform better when you do!

Even look at taking some good supplements, etc...

Anybody with me???

All this uproar today about our "wonderful" new "health care" legislation should be making us all think a little deeper. Instead of just complaining about it, we need to do something positive! Can we have an impact on it on a national level, say politically? If so then we need to DO something! But more importantly, can we take control of our own long term health situation ourselves?

What are you doing to keep yourself out of the "health care" system? Are you living a healthy lifestyle? Our health is one of our most valuable assets! It literally impacts every other important aspect of our lives in a very significant way!

Are we doing what it takes to keep ourselves at maximum health for as long as possible or are we displaying the typical American weakness of apathy that gets us into all kinds of health problems as well as political, financial and relationship problems?

Since we probably won't have a significant impact on the political scene, why don't we fight back by taking control of our own health and wellness? Yes we can have a major impact on our future health by exercising some wisdom and making some lifestyle changes like a great exercise and fitness program and moving towards some healthy food trends right now.

Let's be part of the solution instead of part of the problem!
